This guide shows how to reset your device to factory settings. This can help fix issues or prepare the device for a return.

Make sure to back up important files before you begin.
macOS (MacBook)
Reset using “Erase All Content and Settings”
(Available on macOS Monterey 12 or later)
- Click the Apple menu
- Go to:
- Ventura & Newer (13+): System Settings → General → Transfer or Reset
- Monterey (12): System Preferences → Erase All Content and Settings
- Click Erase All Content and Settings
- Enter your login password
- Review what will be erased → click Continue
- Sign out of your Apple ID (if prompted)
- Confirm by clicking Erase All Content & Settings
Your Mac will restart and return to the setup screen.
If you’re returning the MacBook, do not complete setup - just turn it off.
Windows 11 (Laptop / PC)
Reset your PC
- Open Settings
- Go to System → Recovery
- Under Recovery options, click Reset PC
- Choose one of the options below
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset

Keep my files (for fixing issues)
- Reinstalls Windows
- Keeps personal files
- Removes apps and settings
Remove everything (for return)
- Deletes all files, apps, and settings
- Best for returning your device
Optional settings:
- Clean data → securely wipes the drive (recommended for returns)
